Space Spotlight: The Innovation Lab at Glencoe South Elementary

It began with a simple idea: Create a fun exploratory space for the youngest District 35 students.

By incorporating Glencoe South’s Explorer Panda Lab with state-of-the-art lighting, cushioned learning stairs, an overhead stream of sound baffles, moveable furniture, and writable walls - the Innovation Lab was born!

Originally a small 1950’s auditorium, this newly reimagined lab provides the ultimate flexible space to support staff’s creativity and the students’ imagination.

Activities in the space include Project Lead the Way STEAM lessons, small assemblies, parent events, special lunch bunch groups, reading on the learning stairs, club meetings, guest speakers, and small group instruction.

Color Kaleidoscope

All room lighting (hanging, wall-lined, recessed, and accent) is connected to an interactive touch pad. Kids can flood the room with various lights to see the colored effects.

GreenAssociates had a blast teaming up with the district to create a one-of-a-kind interactive space that will engage and delight students for years!
